What is The Doormat Derby?
The Doormat Derby is a vessel based Halibut fishing tournament for cash and prizes held annually in Santa Cruz, California. Originally conceived as a way a handful of avid sport and commercial halibut fishermen could have a competition on the water, it grew to become an event we wanted to bring to the general halibut fishing community. So get ready to test your skills against some of the best halibut fisherman California has to offer. The competition is fierce…have you got what takes to finish in the money?

To organize and host a highly competitive, family-friendly, and well run California Halibut fishing tournament in the waters near Santa Cruz. This is a tournament organized by fisherman, for fisherman where simply catching one big fish won’t win the grand prize…you have to do it twice!
